Mietzy is a web marketplace built for the German sharing economy, designed to connect people who want to rent out underused items with users who need them for short-term use. The platform focuses on making low-frequency items such as tools, sports equipment, electronics, and outdoor gear easier to discover, list, and rent in a safer and more efficient way. The core product idea is to lower the friction of peer-to-peer rentals. Instead of buying items that may only be needed occasionally, users can quickly search for what they need, browse listings, and complete rental requests with only a few steps. On the supply side, individuals and merchants can turn idle assets into rental income through a more structured and trustworthy marketplace flow. From a product perspective, the platform combines marketplace discovery, listing management, transaction flow, and trust infrastructure into one integrated experience. Search and category browsing are designed to help users quickly find relevant items, while the listing workflow supports product uploads, item descriptions, availability, and rental details in a way that is simple enough for everyday users to complete. A key part of this project is platform trust and transaction security. Based on the project materials, Mietzy integrates Stripe Connect and a KYC-based user verification system to support payment flows, identity checks, transaction security, and contract-related safeguards. This helps reduce trust barriers in peer-to-peer rentals and creates a more reliable experience for both renters and lenders. The platform also introduces AI-assisted listing support. With the help of a Gemini-based AI listing assistant, users can generate listing titles, descriptions, and categories from photos more efficiently, reducing the effort required to publish products and improving listing quality across the marketplace. Another notable direction of the project is operational and delivery scalability. The product is designed not only as a local rental marketplace, but also with a broader cross-border delivery and platform expansion mindset. This reflects a more ambitious product strategy: combining marketplace usability, operational structure, payment compliance, and intelligent tooling into a scalable rental platform. This case highlights marketplace product design, trust and payment system integration, AI-assisted listing workflow, peer-to-peer rental platform architecture, and the digital transformation of item-sharing scenarios in the European market.
